Jennifer Meyer gives Gwyneth Paltrow ‘credit’ for amicable divorce from ‘best friend’ Tobey Maguire

Jennifer Meyer credits Gwyneth Paltrow for making her conscious uncoupling a breeze.

The jewelry designer explained on the “Broad Ideas” podcast Monday that Paltrow and Chris Martin’s amicable divorce influenced her own split from Tobey Maguire.

Meyer, who separated from the “Spider-Man” star in 2016 before filing for divorce four years later, called the actress and the Coldplay frontman’s “beautiful breakup” an “example.”

She recalled, “Right when Tobey and I were starting to break up, I watched what Gwyneth Paltrow was starting to do with Chris — this conscious uncoupling that everyone was making fun of.

“I got to see it firsthand, and it was the most beautiful thing that I had ever witnessed two human beings go through. She was so loving and kind and open to him and she created this family.”

Meyer, 47, approached Paltrow, 51, and marveled over how different the Oscar winner’s divorce was from her parents’s split.

“I was like, ‘Wow, that’s not what I was taught growing up. I was taught that divorce was ugly … bad and would never be good,'” she remembered saying to Paltrow.

Meyer asked at the time, “‘How did you do that? Please, what do I do? Because we’re just starting to break up, and it’s feeling very scary. … How can we come together for [these] human[s] we both created that we love? What do we do?'”

Paltrow, in response, introduced Meyer to Dr. Habib Sadeghi.

“She didn’t tell me their process, she didn’t tell me anything,” Meyer noted. “She just said, ‘I have someone for you to meet with. Good luck,’ basically. Because I think you’ve got to give people their own process.”

Sadeghi, who coined the phrase “conscious uncoupling,” was “an angel” for Meyer and Maguire as they co-parented daughter Ruby, 17, and son Otis, 15.

“[We] got lucky, but you’ve got to work at it,” she gushed. “Hard work pays off.”

Meyer called Maguire, 49, her “best friend” and joked that she “hit the jackpot” of ex-husbands and couldn’t “say one bad thing” about him.

She noted that she vacations and spends holidays with the Golden Globe nominee, who is “close” with her boyfriend, Geoffrey Ogunlesi.

Meyer added that she “rides” for Maguire, which she proved last month when she clapped back at rumors he was dating 20-year-old model Lily Chee.

“he was kindly helping a friend to her car. … And now he has [been] blasted online for dating someone he is not,” she told an Instagram user, according to Reddit screenshots.

In another comment, Meyer wrote, “don’t believe everything you read (I’m sure you were taught that somewhere) Tobey is as good of a guy as it gets.”

As for Paltrow and Martin, the duo moved on with Brad Falchuk and Dakota Johnson, respectively, after finalizing their divorce in 2016.

They are similarly close with each other’s partners while raising daughter Apple, 20, and son Moses, 18.

Paltrow opened up about their dynamic on “The Drew Barrymore Show” in September 2020, admitting that co-parenting had its “good days and bad days.”

The Goop creator confessed, “We are all gray area. We all are trying our best. … Chris and I committed to putting [our kids] first, and that’s harder than it looks.”
