Donald Trump Jr.’s daughter Kai, 17, makes rare appearance at RNC to support ‘normal grandpa’
Donald Trump Jr.’s daughter Kai Trump made a rare appearance at the 2024 Republican National Convention on Wednesday to support her grandfather Donald Trump.
The 17-year-old took the stage at the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee to share personal anecdotes about the former president, 78, and voice her support of his bid for re-election against incumbent President Biden.
“To me, he’s just a normal grandpa,” she began. “He gives us candy and soda when our parents are not looking. He always wants to know how we’re doing in school. When I made the high honor roll, he printed it out to show his friends how proud he was of me.”
As Donald watched from the audience, Kai joked that he sometimes will contact her at inconvenient times.
“He calls me during the middle of the school day to ask how my golf game is going and tells me all about his,” she said with a laugh. “But then I have to remind him that I’m in school and I’ll have to call him back later.”
The teen praised her grandfather for putting his family first despite being entangled in lawsuits and investigations. He became a convicted felon in May when he was found guilty on 34 counts of falsifying business records.

“Even when he’s going through all of these court cases, he always asks me how I’m doing,” she shared. “He always encourages me to push myself to be the most successful person I can be. Obviously, he sets the bar pretty high, but who knows? Maybe one day I’ll catch him.”
Kai also took a moment to condemn the attempted assassination on Donald last Saturday at a campaign rally in Butler, Pa., that left him with a wounded ear.
“I was shocked when I heard that he [had] been shot, and I just wanted to know if he was OK,” she said. “It was heartbreaking that someone would do that to another person. A lot of people have put my grandpa through hell, and he’s still standing.”
The high school student concluded her speech by calling her grandpa “very caring and loving” and telling him, “I love you.”
Kai is the eldest daughter of Don Jr., 46, and his ex-wife, Vanessa Trump.
The former couple, who divorced in 2018 after 13 years of marriage, also share sons Donald III, 15, Tristan, 12, and Spencer, 11, and daughter Chloe, 10.
